I promised I would tell you what I've been reading lately, so here it is! haha
So I haven't been feeling like reading books, maybe because all the books lately are shit, or they seem shit to me, I don't know.... So I decided to read this graphic novel I've been admiring from afar for some time now. This graphic novel, or comic whatever you want to call it, is called Saga by author Brian K. Vaughan who has written a lot of good comics.
And basically it's about two warriors that are enemies in an intergalactic war, but they fall in love and have a baby. And then everybody is pursuing them and their child. The story is told by Hazel, their baby, and it's absolutely magical. The drawings are amazing and the characters are so lovable, even the bad guy.
Honestly it was my first comic so I didn't know what to expect, but I was absolutely blown away. From the very first page I couldn't take my eyes away, it was so unusual but captivating at the same time. And when I reached the latest chapter, I couldn't stand to wait so I started reading Runaways from the same author which is also good, although not as good as Saga. I think I'll continue reading comics for now haha.

Lost and Found Series - Nicole Williams
So this month I had been in a book slump. I just couldn't find any good books!! I had resigned myself to admitting that I had probably already read all the good books released until this moment (and boy! was it sad...). But I'm happy to admit that I was mistaken!!!
One of this days I decided to read a book that I had ignored for a looooong time because I thought it was cliché and probably stupid, but I was the stupid one, because once I started reading it I realized my mistake. It was soooooo great! I mean great! AMAZING!!!!
The story of this girl touched my heart and the guy, Jesse, stole it! I mean, he's a hot cowboy!!! What more can you want?
The story was about this troubled girl Rowan. She dresses in goth clothes, uses black lipstick, has earrings, you know the whole look. And her mother asks her to prove she is responsible by moving to a farm and working there throughout the summer. There she meets the previously mentioned hot cowboy, Jesse, and his equally hot best friend, bad boy cowboy, Garth. So yeah.... it gets interesting. haha But what really surprised me is that Jesse is such a likable character, in fact all the family that takes her in is.
I just loooooove books about cowboys and the girls who get to love them. There's nothing better than reading about a tortured soul that slowly heals thanks to love! Yeah, I'm cheesy like that!!! haha
So the series consists on three books. Two are about Rowan, and the last one is about Garth, yay! (seriously I fell in lust with that character!!!) You can find the series on Goodreads HERE!

City of Bones | The Mortal Instruments
So I've read these books maybe a couple of years ago, and honestly when I read the back cover I was hesitant to say the least. Actually I had managed to avoid it for quite a long time, until a boring day where I decided to finally read it (maybe because there was nothing else to do, and it had raving reviews after all!).
But surprise surprise, I LOVED IT, I think I even wrote a post about it here, I don't remember... But the thing is that I was totally and absolutely immersed in it. I knew that it had it's cliché moments and the overused supernatural stuff, but at that point I was bored with every other genre and it seemed like I HAD to return to fantasy.
And honestly it didn't disappoint. I was instantly in love with the character of Jace, and Simon! and the books had that something that makes you read book after book at 3 AM until you finish them. So it wasn't even a week before I finished the whole series, after that I even read some books about the English institute and some about Magnus Bane. I read all those books until the story seemed too outlandish for me, probably because what draw me in at the start was the relationship between Jace and Clary.
So after that I just decided to wait for the next book in the main series, and when it was announced, the movie! I mean, Robert Sheehan anyone???
Just look at him!!!
But today I finally had time to see the movie, and so I decided to watch it with my brother. After all he had heard me all year whining about it, and I guess he was interested in the action he saw in the trailer. But it hadn't even been twenty minutes into the movie when I started to get disappointed. I mean... Clary is just so stupid, and clumsy, and weak!! I don't know if it was my overactive imagination while reading the books or the movie just was plain bad. I guess Robert was great, even the guy who played Jace wasn't that bad (although I always imagined Jace a bit more like Lestat de Lioncourt, sigh, but you can't get everything...). But c'mon!!! Valentine is blond!!!! and he is not that young!!!!! I mean he is a father! what is wrong with the producers, and directors, even Cassandra Clare, How Could You???????
And then everything just went from bad to worse, for example everything seems to happen in just one day, they meet and then she's kissing Jace, and then finding out he's her "brother". Like after the first half of the movie everything is wrong. Of course there are some redeeming occasions where they followed the book (like Alec and Magnus Bane), but they are so isolated that when they happen the common viewer doesn't understand what is happening. Like Simon, when they rescue him he is just hanging pretty there, but in the book he is actually a rat, of course I appreciate the view but I would appreciate it more if they sticked to the story. And then the fight in the Institute, that is just plain stupid, I don't know whose idea was it (maybe to make it more "interesting"), I don't know, I just know it sucked.
So it's pretty easy to assume I didn't enjoy it, of course I will continue reading the books, but IF there is a next movie, I'll have to be forced to see it.
Like, do you get my point???? It's just so sad to see a good book ruined like that! Now excuse me, I'll go cry in a corner... Just joking, I'm mad instead of sad, maybe I'll just go read The Hunger Games or Lord of the Rings and think about movies where they at least tried to stick to the story.

Fallen Crest High | Rin (Harold Sakuichi)
It's finally winter break for me! Now I can finally write again. Although not everything is rainbows and smiles now, my life continues in it's depressing decline.
I think it's partly due to my unrealistic expectations of life. First of all, after years of living without an active social life I started to depend on my success as a student to be happy. And that my dear readers has turned out to be a great mistake. For example, you could say I was content in my high school years because the studies were so easy so therefore I felt happy, but now in college, my classes are really hard and because I don't do as well as before I feel depressed.
My social life still is really depressing so I'm screwed either way. Maybe I've been depressed for years now, but I had ignored it until now. Now I realize there's this huge void inside me that I can never fill, specially with superficial stuff. Things that used to make me happy, now only bring me instant happiness until I remember my harsh reality. And boy, have I screwed up with a lot of guys! It's just that I have an unrealistic expectations of guys, I always expect them to be something they're not. And let's face it, most guys now either are jerks or cowards or childish. But god, does it hurt everytime I screw up....
And I won't even talk about this guy that I had strung along for a long time, who then rejected me (or I rejected him, I'm not sure), found a girlfriend immediately, and then still expects me to go along with him like nothing happened. Or this other cute guy that I really liked, and because he didn't pursue me I thought he was shy so I pursued him (I probably was really pathetic btw), and then he still didn't make a move and now I'm too embarrassed to do it myself.
But let's stop talking about my nonexistent love life, honestly this year left me tired of guys who pretended to like me, while all along they had girlfriends or were total players. And I honestly don't wanna tell you how I totally screwed up my grades...
So I'll tell you about the only things that have given me happiness for a day or two.
First, there were the Fallen Crest High series, nothing like perfect fictional guys to forget about reality. And the drama! sigh... I remembered my days of watching Gossip Girl haha. (Honestly I'm not good in explaining the awesomeness of a book so just read the summary in goodreads, then READ IT and decide by yourself haha).
And next there is this great manga that remembered me of my days of reading Bakuman, but I'll be honest here and tell you that it's even better! haha Also the author is the same one as Beck which is great and you should also check out!!
It's about this kid who has always wanted to be a mangaka, but when he finally takes his manuscript to his favorite manga magazine he is harshly rejected and told to quit. But he perseveres and meets a mysterious girl that seems to have supernatural powers. Honestly the story seems kinda stupid but it's all about the ambiance the author gives. Also it has a weird sense of humor, but I'm weird so I'm ok with it haha.
And later today I'll probably immerse myself in the world of sims 3 and forget about my sad reality. So I'll talk to you later if I find more awesome stuff or if I'm crying of sadness and need to unwind somewhere.

The Giver Movie
It's been a while since I've written about which books I'm reading at the moment, but today I had to make an exception. Because today I found out that The Giver, on of my favorite books of all times, is going to have a movie. And what's even better is that Taylor Swift is going to be on it!!
And look at the actor who is playing Jonas, I just can't!... And it's not going to be released until the next year, I just honestly can't wait! Btw, I just found out that Brenton Thwaites, the actor who is playing Jonas, starred in Blue Lagoon: The Awakening the past year. So now I already know which movie I'm seeing this weekend! haha.
So for the ones that didn't read this book in school, I'm going to tell you a bit about it. The story takes place in a dystopian world, and there is a perfect community where everyone is happy and well adjusted. And Jonas is happy like everyone else, but one day when he is about to get his assigned career, he gets assigned to be a giver, a very weird and unique assignment. At first, he gets afraid to be different even though everyone thinks he should feel honored. But when he stars to learn about his assignment, he learns about the darker side of his community and he starts to doubt everything he believed in.
So obviously I can't seem to convey the awesomeness of it in this mediocre summary without making it sound like every other dystopian story out there. So forgive me! haha But I highly recommend you to read it!!

Everything changes...
I'm just too lame right now to post photos. And I'm getting all philosophical thinking about how everything has changed so drastically in my life. People I thought would be with me for the rest of my life now seem like total strangers and my life is totally different. I'm scared and happy at the same time but I feel like I've lost a part of myself. I just don't know what to think anymore...
Today I spent the whole day trying to escape my life by reading, and I succeded for a while reading Legend by Marie Lu. I had honestly missed dystopian fiction. And then when my life seemed right again I spent some time chilling while watching a movie called Too Big To Fail, it was about the economic recession of 2008.

The Mark of Athena
If you've been reading this blog for a while you probably know that around the beginning of last year I read the entire Percy Jackson series. So I've decided to finally read the latest book that I keep postponing to read, but let me tell you, it's not that I don't like it anymore, it's just that it's not the same to read it apart from the rest of the series because you lose all the excitement and small details you normally remember.
But apart from my reading habits I have to tell you that this was my first week at college. And I'm going to be honest, I was super scared!!! Not from the courses and stuff like that but from social relationships but thankfully everything went okay. I already know a lot of new cool people and the classes are going ok. Although I feel a little sleep-deprived and I feel like I haven't listened to music or watched a movie in a long time.... But before college started I was listening to this music.
They are kind of an unusual combination of songs but I was listening a lot of post-punk, new wave, dark wave and goth that day. If you want to hear the whole playlist you can find it below:
I've been meaning to write a blog post about my favorite music in 2012 but I always seem to forget and suddenly it's already the middle of January, but I promise I will! Meanwhile it seems there is a lot of music I have to listen but not enough time. And that is without mentioning all the homework and reading I have to do for college...

1Q84
Sorry for not being here lately, I don't know if you had noticed but I had been trying to write at least one post every day. Of course, that hasn't been possible... Some of the reasons of my absence are that I have been reading the book 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. But this is not easy task seeing that the book has more than nine hundred pages... but at least is not boring! Far from it, it's absolutely interesting, but because I'm only human I haven't been able to finish it yet...
But I think that is better this way! Because normally I would read some nice book that makes me feel good but barely lasts a day, of course they leave a nice taste but I only think of them around one week if not one or two days..
But this one it's something different! I think I will remember this book for a good part of my life!! I know that I have read many books by Haruki Murakami before, but they haven't marked me the way this book is doing. Of course I remember some bizarre events from those books, or I remember some useful bit of trivia that seemed interesting at the moment, or maybe even music, but the stories haven't left me hanging in the edge of my chair while I'm reading. Right now I'm highly anticipating what will happen next. But I blame everything on the fact that I almost never take time to think and analyze about what is happening in the books. Although I realize this may be the fault of all the brainless, happy-go-lucky books that I'm reading lately. But it's just that lately many things have been shit in my life so at least I want to feel good in my fantasy world where everything turns out ok....
This is one of those "brainless" things that has been making me feel good lately.

From Rags // Animal Collective
Review from the book I read today:
From Rags by Suzanne WrightMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was such a nice change from all the books about painfully shy girls with no will at all. I was prepared to be disappointed by some common, mindless, and cliched plot. But instead I was pleasantly surprised by a strong female lead who takes no crap from anybody!! And the fact that it was written by a British author made it even better! I really enjoyed reading about all the blokes, twats or how she sodded off ponces who tried to shag her. haha
To explain how great it was you have to understand that I expected a book about a consummate playboy who gets back with his first love and changes his wicked ways, but since the first moment they meet again she takes the lead by making him understand that she won't tolerate him using her and then cheating on her so if he can't change he better fucks off. And it's not just words mind you! and if something happened is because she wanted it, not because the guy was ohhh soooo irresistible and he was soooo.. dominant that she couldn't resist him. The best part is that when she was confronted by difficult situations she took matters into her own hands and didn't expect a knight in shinning armor to come save her. She was confident, smart and didn't crumble to pieces if someone talked shit about her.
(view spoiler)[ The best part was when Connor's ex comes to try to tell her that she is pregnant with his baby but she just tells her: "Congratulations on your fictional pregnancy!" and then closes the door on her face. haha (hide spoiler)]
The only thing that I thought was weird at first but then ended up liking even if it was confusing at times is that the author changes the point of view A LOT throughout the book. So sometimes your inside Jaxx's mind and then your inside Connor's, without mentioning all their friends and sometimes just acquaintances. But it was nice to know the reactions of the both of them while they interacted, mainly because sometimes Jaxxon acted totally different of how she was feeling at the moment.
Another thing I liked a lot were their friends. Sometimes they were just sooo insightful and helpful when they realized they just needed a push, or they simply backed off when they needed space. That is without mentioning Jaxxon's three überprotective uncles. haha But their friends play a large role in the book by providing help or simply comedy. In short, it was a good book.

And song I listened at today:
Haha. Today I'm very concise in my words haha.. ^.^ But I totally believe many people listen to the song above while being high... haha

Marie Antoinette: The Journey
I've been reading the book of Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser for a while now. The book is actually around five hundred pages long but somehow her way of writing makes it difficult for me to finish it, or it may be the fact that I'm in the last leg of the book when everything gets depressing when the revolution makes her life a mess. And I don't even have a glimmer of hope because I know what is her imminent fate. It's like a long torture to read how she can't escape the horrible death that awaits her.... But I'll make an inhuman effort and maybe I'll finish reading it this week...
But out of curiosity, to find out if the whole affair thing was true, I started reading Count Fersen's diary. (Do you see the similarity of the original Count Fersen and the actor in the movies in the pictures above?) But I must say that his diary is A LOT MORE INTERESTING than Antonia Fraser's book! He shares funny observations of the customs of the people in Versailles and many other countries. And like Antonia Fraser says, he truly was a great lover of women. haha But what is sad is that I know that he also had a sad end...
But meanwhile I'm going to enjoy the small nuances in his life!

Pink - Lili Wilkinson
Just read this book, it was unexpectedly good, at first the writing seemed kind of simple and superficial but then there appeared all this complicated dialogues, and it got me wondering if I'm just too stupid or the kids on Australia are smarter... haha (there are a lot of inside jokes that you only get if you are a super nerd, avid reader or simply good google user, I'm the last btw)
But the plot wasn't stupid at all! there were a lot of feminist arguments but interpreted in a modern way, and I really liked that! It showed that you can be a feminist and still wear pink!! Of course it could have been better, because somehow I couldn't relate to the characters at all, probably because I'm not gay and don't have issues with sexual inclinations... haha
Another thing I liked is that it didn't divide groups between populars and nerds, because somehow the authors always make their main characters choose if they want to be popular and mean, or nerds who don't care what anybody else thinks. SPOILER: (I really liked that the leader of the pastels turned out to be a closeted nerd, and at the end pastels and screw ups found out they weren't that different after all).
At the end, it's a really simple book with common teenage issues but it has an unique plot that makes it worth reading.

Every Day - David Levithan
This is the MOST AMAZING BOOK EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every Day by David Levithan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is one of the most original books I've read. You kind of expect a sci-fi book but it ends up being more than that. Every chapter of this book was so bittersweet, it's like David Levithan created an amazing unique story for every day of A's life. A is just an observer of these different lives but meeting Rhiannon makes him want more. While reading it you want to know what is going to happen next between him and Rhiannon, but you also want to know in what kind of person he'll wake up the next day. And while some of these bodies had such depressing lives, some of them were such memorable characters. I just laughed and cried along with A. It's no surprise that he decided to write this book after talking with Suzanne Collins and John Green. This is the kind of book that stays with you forever...

Before I read this book, I just can't get over how great it is!!!...., I read some manga and these were the ones who stood out and are the ones that I'm always dying to read every week or every month, depending...
Kuragehime, about a guy who likes to dress as a girl and a lot of girls who are otakus and don't know anything about fashion, or being normal!
Do you see the change??? haha
Then there is Hibi Chouchou, one of the sweetest mangas I've ever read! ^^ It's about two painfully shy things that fall in love with each other.
One of my greatest favourites is Otoyomegatari, specially the latest volume with the twins. It's about young girls that become brides and it's set in the Caspian see.
Finally, there's Hiyokoi, but you already knew about it. But I'm repeating it because I'm happy that I got to read it today. I'll probably share more mangas later, when it isn't two o'clock in the morning, this is soooo not healthy!

This is one of the most original books I've read. You kind of expect a sci-fi book but it ends up being more than that. Sea Breeze Series
I think I just broke a personal record by reading three books in a single day! and before that I reread like three series of like three or four books each!! so yeah, I've been reading a lot!!!! but I've also been eating a lot of fiambre, but you probably don't know what it is because it's only eaten in Guatemala, but I can assure you that is one of the most amazing thing you could ever eat, it's like every single amazing thing you can eat mixed together in one dish.
This are some of the books I've read in the past couple of days, but I'm sure if I put them all it would be a really long post... haha
But while this books, and their prequels and sequels, etc, are really good they just can't compare to a single book by Abbi Glines, and what makes me really happy is that she has written lots of them and I just read the latest one. I can't even describe how amazing it is, and I don't trust myself to put it into words and write a review that would give the book it's deserving merit. I'll just tell you that it seemed like the world around me disappeared and it was just me inside that book, of course anyone that saw me while reading it could just see me with a big grin on my face or unexpected fits of laughter. I probably freaked everybody out... haha
but the previous ones are just as amazing!!

Callum & Harper
Just wrote this review after reading one of the most amazing books EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I already wrote enough praises in the review.... haha
Callum & Harper by Fisher Amelie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
While reading this I couldn't decide if it was taken right out of a soap opera or some greek tragedy. I mean, Callum and Harper have such tragic pasts and when you think they've had enough, some shit happens and they are right back where they started. But no matter what happens they bravely get up again and fight. It's terribly sweet that they are able to face any kind of shit just because they have each other. But I have to admit that I was really tired by the middle of the book because their interactions seemed like eternal foreplay and it seemed like there were infinite misunderstandings, and right when they were about to have a serious conversation about their feeling someone or something always stoped them. Although there were some amazing developments that I didn't expect and I couldn't help but feel anything but pleased. Personally the book was some emotional rollercoaster and I had an all nighter just to finisht reading it, YES, IT WAS THAT AMAZING!!!
They had such amazing chemistry and I couldn't help but swoon at how protective Callum was of Harper.... ^^

The Princess of Iowa
I just made a review of the book I've been reading the past three days (I think...) but if feels like I've hardly read lately, it's like the days just banish....
The Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Read this book if you're tired of perfect heroines, this one keeps it real!, not in the "Oh, I'm such a normal and plain girl" way, but more in a "I can't stand this girl" kind of way. She's the popular mean girl that everyone adores but is such a bitch sometimes... so at the beginning of the book there are points where you can't stand her, but as the book goes on she kind of grows on you.
As for the way the author writes, sometimes you wonder if she just sucks at writing or maybe she decided to keep it as simple as possible. There are points where it changes from present tense to past and you just wonder, What the hell is going on?!!! but there are also moments where even if it seems badly written, it manages to suck you into the story. It deals a lot with the issue of driving drunk, so at some points it feels like a campaign against drinking and driving. But the combination of the author's way of writing and the driving drunk stuff manages to take you into a nightmare (or blurry dream) that you can't escape from even if you want to. But I liked the story, in the it was good enough... kind of way, but I guess I was a little cliché at the end, but not bad cliché if you like soapy romance.

I Knew You Were Trouble
This single surprised me, I expected Taylor's normal sound but this unexpectedly pop sounding, but not bad! I love it!!!
I just read this dystopian YA novel and after I finished it I felt strangely compelled to write a review and I was surprisingly witty and inspired, probably because I didn't write at 3 on the morning after an all nighter... haha
Cinder by Marissa MeyerMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Well first of all I must say that I'm glad to read a YA book that is not about vampires, wherewolves, fairies or any such thing! It was good at the beginning but now is getting annoying....
Instead this is a dystopian novel about cyborgs and people from the moon!!! Cinder, the main character, is strong, smart and determined. And the pace of the novel is good enough that it keeps you wanting to know what happens next, of course I expect many sequels after this but I'm willing to read them if they are as exciting as this one.
But of course I won't proclaim this novel as life-changing or the next big thing, because there are many things that could use improvement. First of all, this is a dystopian novel so in exchange I want to know how this universe here works, how is the new society, the freaky rules they have or the unspoken secrets they have. But instead at the beginning the author throws you unprepared and you just have to guess what is happening, so it's a little unsettling for a while... It's like the author assumed you knew everything about this new society and the problems Cinder is facing. I wanted more background story of the planet, the lunars and the rest of the characters!!!
Another problem I found is that the romance between Cinder and the prince is like an afterthought of the author so there is no emotion or spark between them that leaves you wanting more. Of course, I would be okey if there appears a love triangle later on and their feeling for each other grow in the face of obstacles in their romance. haha
But I will reserve my true opinion until the series is over, meaning if the next books aren't crap, but I will tell you that the book accomplished the goal of entretaining me for a good couple of hours!!

Cross My Heart
It seems like the weekend didn't exist at all. My graduation ceremony was on saturday and I had the best grades, yay! I got almost all the awards but it seemed like everyone was jealous or something... it seems like they realized I'm the geek girl and didn't want to have anything to do with me... but I'm just tired of trying to determine their mood... still what hurts is that some friends turned out to be really shitty people and the people I expected the least from ended up being there for me. I'm trying to see the positive side in all of this, because after all next year I'll be in college and I'll probably never see them ever again, and I'll get a chance to reinvent myself (like I've done everytime my life sucks and I get the chance to). But what I've been wondering is that maybe is not just their fault that everyone I know ends up drifting away from me, maybe I push them away without realizing it.... maybe I need help, maybe I need somebody to teach me how to make lasting friends.... but I'm just so sad of being betrayed all the time and people just using me for their own interests. And it's not just them, I realize I'm an introvert and that it's really hard to me to make light conversation, or getting drunk, or just joke, or being the light of the party, but I hope that in college I will have the chance to meet like-minded people who get me as I am and become real friends I can rely on.
But I should stop now, I think I've shared too much of my personal life and it will get embarrassing reading this in the future...
So yesterday I slept half of the time and then I started reading this book.
And it kind of cheered me up, but reading this book also including reading the book Ethan Frome from Edith Wharton because half of the book mentions it and I soooo don't want spoilers in a book I had been hoping to read for some time now.
